UPDATE ON MANAGEMENT MEETING BILL, MEASURE TO REMOVE RENT CONTROL EXEMPTION

WMA continues to actively engage in discussions with key legislators to address remaining concerns regarding AB 2031 (Lee), the park management meeting requirement bill as well as SB 940 (Laird), which removes the rent control exemption for the new construction of spaces in local rent control ordinances.

Both bills are poised to be brought up on the Assembly and Senate floors, respectively.

UPCOMING LEGISLATIVE DEADLINE TO IMPACT MANAGER TRAINING BILL

Friday, May 20th is the fiscal committee deadline, but it is expected that those bills currently on the “Suspense File” will be decided on Thursday, May 19th.  SB 869 (Leyva), the manager training mandate bill, is currently being held in the Senate Appropriations Committee Suspense File. WMA reached out to the Senate Appropriations Committee members to request that the bill be held in the suspense file. We noted the significant costs to implement this program and that there are other areas that would be a far better use of state funds, such as hiring additional HCD inspectors.

BALLOTS FOR JUNE PRIMARY GOING OUT THIS WEEK

The June Primary will be held on June 7th, but ballots across the state will be mailed out to all California voters starting May 9th.  California law now requires all ballots to be mailed to voters, and the June 7th Primary will only have candidates for Local, Legislative, and Statewide offices on the ballot. Some counties may have local ballot measures on the ballot, but statewide issues will be voted on in the November Election. When you get your ballot in the mail, please make sure your voice is heard and cast your vote by mail.
