California is routinely ranked as one of the most expensive places to live in the nation, mostly due to our state’s sky-high housing costs. In fact, the average price of a California home is roughly $440,000, more than double the national average of $179,000. These high housing prices are the chief culprit behind our state’s third-lowest homeownership rate in the nation at 54 percent.
